Description

Monochrome steel-plate engraving depicting a ship sinking in the foreground, with the captain shouting through a horn, and men still working the cannons even as their fellows struggle in the rising water in the foreground. A lifeboat is clearly marked "Cumberland". Cannonballs are shown exploding in midair above the ship, and in the right-hand background is a large steam vessel with sloping sides and many cannon. Artist names and title are printed in lower margin.
