Description

A view of tea clippers anchored off Pagoda Island in the Min River. The area, about 12 miles east of Foochow, was frequented by Western shipping vessels as trade with China increased. The names of the ships are labeled in ink in the lower margin.

Identified vessels: 'Black Prince,' 'Fiery Cross,' 'Taeping,' 'Ada,' and 'Flying Spur'
