Tektronix was founded in 1946 in Portland, OR. Originally, the company was founded to manufacture and sell electronic equipment in general, but after one of the founders, Howard Vollum, designed a more sensitive oscilloscope than what was currently on the market, the company began to specialize in those instruments.
